It Takes a "Community" to Put on a Musical!
The 50th Anniversary season of Avon Lake's longest running community theatre, Mighty Goliath Productions, has been in rehearsal for the last four weeks, with just three more weeks until opening night on February 27th. More than 100 cast members and musicians will perform the Tony-award winning musical, "Ragtime," in the Performing Arts Center at Avon Lake High School.
It takes a community to produce a musical, and thatıs certainly the case with Mighty Goliath Productions, now celebrating 50 years of shows. Each Friday night the cast gathers, and itıs a whirlwind of activity for nearly 4 hours as groups of performers rotate between learning their staging, practicing the difficult music, or rehearsing the orchestra parts. Then again on Sunday, the entire cast gathers again for another intensive rehearsal. Most professional theatres could not produce a full musical in this amount of time, but MGP has prided itself on this long-standing tradition. Snow days? No such thing exists for the performers and directors of MGP! Despite sub-zero temperatures and blinding snowstorms in January, the cast has embodied the old adage, "The show must go on!", and many drive long distances to volunteer their time and talents each week.
